Welcome to the Avendale Campaign of NERO
(updated
August 20, 2004)
We would like to take a quick moment to welcome
you to our game! Please take the time to read all of the articles here-in to
assure that you will have the best possible time at a
NERO LARP Avendale event.
NERO wants its members to understand
that our goal is to provide a safe, courteous, exciting, emotional,
satisfying, and unbiased play environment. Our full-time, dedicated Staff
members are here to make sure your game is enjoyable. You can see all of the
NERO Products and Services by going
Here!. If you haven't
completed your Character history, contact our staff
and let us help you complete it!
We as the staff are eager to make your time here
fun and to give you an all-out great event. The camps we rent have cabins
and a dining hall on most occasions. We have a kitchen staff that provides means and maintain beverages in the Tavern .We have put effort into
creating a town atmosphere with full costumes and as many props as we could
gather.
This welcome package contains all of the
information you might need to have a fun weekend. Bring any additional questions
to Logistics, Monster Camp or to the nearest Out of Game Staff member.
Please do not interrupt our Staff members during a weekend with questions or
comments unless it is absolutely necessary for the current game. If you find
yourself having difficulty finding things to do, absolutely come to Monster Camp
and tell us - we will get your group involved. All questions
and constructive comments should be submitted at the end of the weekend on the
Event Survey or via specific email to the NERO® Office (Jvalenti@nerolarp.com).
This will help us maintain a constant in-game atmosphere at all times.
We hope your stay here is a memorable one, and
hope to see you return again in the future. We would appreciate it if you could
fill out the Event Survey online on our web page
www.NeroLarp.com/survey/EventSurvey.htm after the event so that we may better ourselves
in the future.
Membership Verification: Membership and Characters from all
NERO Chapters are honored. You must have a valid Membership Card or Character
Card listing Date of Membership Expiration or you will be expected to pay $15.00
for a 3 month membership which will include tracking of your character and a
membership Card. Membership renewal is $30.00 per year, and new memberships are
$40.00 per year and include a NERO® Rule Book.
To verify if your
membership is current, see this list now, or you can look at the Expiration
Date listed to the right of your name on the Membership List on the wall in
Monster Camp. If you
become a member with NERO International, you will receive a membership card
and an ID for the NERO Online Database.
Cabin Assignments: All players are created equal, and
therefore sleeping bed spaces are acquired on a first-come, first-served basis.
This means that once you are assigned a bed, no other player may take that bed
from you. You may pitch a tent in the designated areas, and these tents are
always in-game and can be Ward-ed.
Parking: Parking can be found in the lot near the
entrance. Further parking is available on the tennis courts near the bathrooms.
Every person must read the Parking Lot policy so as not to disturb the
neighbors. Only authorized vehicles may drive on the field. If you have not
been given authorization your automobile must remain within the cemented areas
only. We have lost $500.00 due to automobiles destroying the field and will lose
another $500.00 and the camp if the field is destroyed again.
If you are bored at the event: IF YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING FOR A 3 HOUR
PERIOD AND ARE BORED, COME TO MONSTER CAMP AND TELL THE STAFF AND WE WILL GET
YOU INVOLVED IMMEDIATELY. We all have to work together to make sure that
everyone is participating and if your not doing anything we want you to come and
tell us so we can correct the challenge. Please also consider speaking in-game
with all other players to hear stories of that they have done and are doing this
event. Also, NPC a 4 hour shift and you will be helping to make the event
enjoyable for everyone. The more experienced players who have managed to find
themselves in the midst of yet another adventure should focus on passing
adventures off to other players and their friends. They should also enter into
combat with appropriate monsters. i.e. let the low level players fight the
goblins, let the medium to high levels fight the trolls, lizard men, barbarians
and Minotaur, do not engage an adversary that is already engaged without asking
the other character (in-game), if they require support. or, if its only
skeletons or zombies attacking, the Higher level, more experienced player
characters should let the less experienced players engage them while watching
over them and keeping an eye out for the big nasty red glowing eyed undead
abomination and his larger than unlife minions. Basically, Let Everyone get a
fair share and help strengthen our out of game social culture and sportsmanship
policies while building in-game alliances.
Attendance Tracking: When you attend one of our events, in
order to get Experience at your local chapter, you are to take Your Character
Card back to your home chapter, signed by any one of the staff members who does
check-out. If you are in the NERO Online
Database, as a member of
NERO International,
you can get one of our representatives to update your XP/Build by emailing them
after an event.
Opening Ceremonies: Out of Game opening ceremonies begins promptly at
9:15 and will end at 9:30pm. Game starts 5 minutes after opening ceremonies completes, at
10pm the latest, with game continuing until
2PM
Sunday afternoon.
Check-In: Every player must check-in at
logistics or monster camp, depending upon the time of their arrival, pay and get
a receipt. Visitors from other chapters must bring 2 copies of their
character card. One copy will be kept by logistics and 1 will be signed off on for XP,
Goblin Points Earned, and Deaths - to be brought back to the players home
chapter.
Check-Out: Every event attendee receives
an envelope containing important information including character cards at the
start of the event. Members with Characters in the NERO Online Database can check-out by placing their character card into the
envelope with the appropriate amount of silver, if any, included toward
maximizing their characters education. Our NERO Online Database Staff will
update your card within 3 business days of attending an event. Visitors can
check-out by having their character card signed by a staff member with the
amount of their max-out, deaths taken, and goblin points earned written on it.
Game Rules: NERO Avendale uses the NERO Rule
Book 8th Edition, the 8th Edition Errata, the NERO® Formal Magic system©
and These Play tests. We Do Not allow Love 9, Enslavement, Euphoria,
Forget-It-Well, and Forget-Me-Not to WORK at all at Avendale.
Low Level Adventures: We will try to make it very clear when
someone comes out that they are hooking a low level adventure. Maybe they are
going to pick flowers or fight giant bees, or whatever might be appropriate for
their level. We will try to have the Non Player Character 'hooking' the
adventure module make it clear, but not loudly, that the townsfolk ought to be
recruiting lower level characters. Keep your eyes out for these 'hooks' and get
your friends involved in them.
Game Possessions: All Production & Magic Items marked
Unrestricted are permitted into the game provided they are defined within the system, and are
creatable by PCs. Production Items not creatable by PCs include Enslavement,
Euphoria, Berserk, & Instant Death Gas Poison, and Silence Scrolls, all of
which do not transfer into the Avendale Campaign.
Marshal List & Documentation: A list of
Authorized Avendale Campaign Marshals is posted in Monster Camp and at the
bottom of the Marshal Notes that are on the back of your Cabin Door. Authorized
Marshals of NERO carry a Marshal Identification Card. If there is any ever any
doubt if someone is a Marshal, ask for their Marshal ID Card. If they do not
have one, go to Monster Camp for verification. In addition to the Avendale
Campaign Marshals, visiting Marshals may also be in attendance at events, and if
active,
will have a Marshal Identification Card as well though may not be listed on the
Marshal Notes Sheet provided in each cabin.
Formal Magic Spell Marshals: Marshals for
Formal Magic Spell castings are to be
requested only at Monster Camp, not by intercepting a Staff member who is busy
doing something else. If you cast Formal Magic Spells you must complete the
“Casting a Formal Magic Spell” form located at monster camp.
Marshal Notes: Each Cabin has a Marshal Notes paper
on the back of their door, with a list of Staff Members at the bottom. Each
cabin is responsible for ensuring that the proper information is on the Marshal
Notes. See the NERO® Rule Book to determine what information must be on the
Marshal notes.
Use of Expired Tags: Any member who attempts to use an
expired or improperly authorized Item is cheating. Please take the time to make
sure that all of your tags are validated with the proper authorizing mark and an
expiration date. LCO Magic Items and/or Tags from other Chapters are NEVER to be
carried with current game possessions or Tags while at a game other than the
Chapter issuing the LCO Tag. LCO Items found on a person at a chapter other than
the issuing one will be confiscated by us and returned to the
Originating Chapter. Disciplinary Action may be taken by any of the Chapters
and/or National as well.
Remain In-Game: It is absolutely the most important requirement that ALL players remain in-game
throughout the entire weekend, especially when walking around and you can be
seen by the other players.
The Skill Sheet: To track the use of your
skills we provide you with a Skill sheet. When you use a times per day Skill,
you are required to check the use of it off on the Skill sheet, within 10
minutes of its use. We encourage players to find a time after using skills to
mark there use on the skill sheet
Cast On The Fly: The “Cast On The Fly” spell casting technique is used. Before
casting any spells, Spell Casters are required to review each spell they may
cast throughout the day from their spell book or one of their friends. . To ‘ready’ themselves at the start of the game, casters
will sit back and review their spells as soon as game begins. At ‘reset’, they
will again take out their spell books and review the spells they may cast in
that day. Casters are not required to carry spell books unless studying or
meditating.
NPC and Make The Game Better: We request event attendees to NPC a
4-hour shift to enhance the game and alleviate the burden of monstering and
rumor spreading upon Staff and dedicated Event NPCs. We appreciate you
giving your time to increase the enjoyment of all players at this event.
Max-out is not automatic.
For
attending the event, you are awarded 1 blanket, and may turn in 1 silver piece
per build point of your character to maximize your training with another
blanket. For example; a player with 138 Build Points is awarded 138xp (1 blanket
of experience) and may turn in an additional 138 silver pieces to gain another
138xp (1 blanket of experience). 1 blanket of experience equals the number of
build points you have in experience points. This amount is to be turned in at
check-out, which is the first 30 minutes after out of game closing ceremonies.
Character Documentation: All players (PCs and NPCs) must carry
character documentation. Marshals are permitted to check this documentation at
any time while non-Marshals must have a valid reason. The player need only
display the portion of his documentation which shows the skill in question.
Our
Marshals will be randomly checking PC and NPC cards to ensure that players are
accurately recording their current body, spell and skill usage, and active magic
item effects. All players, PC and NPC alike are responsible for keeping their
Skill Sheet current and up to date. Any player that is found not doing so will
be issued a warning, marked on their character card. After three such warnings
the offending player will be issued an Orange Page Headband and will have their
skills removed for an amount of time determined by the ruling marshal, turning
the headband in at monster camp after the short period. Each infraction will be
recorded in a Marshal's log at NPC camp. If a player has had their skills
removed twice, they will be subject to additional disciplinary action.
OOG Chatter: Speak out-of-game as little
as possible during the event. Every player is expected to correct other players
if they go out of game during the event. Individuals who repeatedly go out of
game will be asked to leave. If you have an in-game secret which you don’t want
revealed, you shouldn’t tell anyone out-of-game. This way, if someone
discovers your secret, you can be assured it was discovered in-game.
Approaching NPC Camp: Only those players who are Staffing, NPC’ing, or require
logistical support (formal marshal, etc) enter NPC Camp. NPC Camp is where it
all happens at an event. Where Storylines are spoken about openly, and monsters
given directives every few minutes. There are often White Boards on the Wall
with critical information on it, and Plot Lines posted to the walls that will
help NPC’s play their monster roles, and promote the Event Plot. It becomes very
difficult to keep our events moving along if we receive a PC in camp with
questions, every 30 minutes. Players with ‘General’ questions should NOT come to
NPC camp they should wait until after the game is over. Before coming to monster
camp we request that you ask yourself “Am I asking for in-game information? Do I
really need this information out of game, and do I need it right now”? Our
Monster Camp personnel are trying to coordinate the scheduled actions of 10-50
people and cannot afford to lose 10 minutes out of every 30 answering questions
that could wait until after an event.
Quite Zones: Be aware of the Camp Quite Zones and there
associated times. If we make too much noise at night (after midnight) the neighbors call the police. Our theatrical boffer combat should be
conducted using Conversational Combat, and after
11pm should not be near cabins 3, 4 & 5, anywhere
between the river and the Mapledale road, or at the end of the far loop, where a
house is plainly visible within 50 yards. If you see a RED Glow Stick, odds are
you are nearing the ‘quite zone’. At Night, stay around the back of the tavern
and behind the lavatory facilities as the monster critters are always lingering
behind it.
Camp Cleanliness:
We Must leave the campsite very clean or we will not be asked back.
Pick up all of your garbage, and the garbage in the area surrounding the cabin
you stayed in, to make sure that we leave the site so clean that the Camp asks
us to return. If the cabin that you stayed in is not clean we will impose a
$10.00 penalty fee per person in the cabin.
Spell Packets: Traditional Spell Packets as mentioned in the
NERO Rule Book are permitted at
Tolland 4-H Camp, but due to
the overwhelming amount of packets that were not picked during events in
previous years we must make sure that there are not any when we depart. Also, Logistics and Monster Camp have Spell Orbs (squishy soft golf
sized orbs) for sale at $2 for 4 Orbs. To Mark your Orbs as yours, you must place your initials on the spell
orbs, and pick them up after you throw them. Spell Orbs without Initials are
Monster Camps.
The Check-In and Logistics Process
When you arrive at a
NERO LARP Game, you must go
through logistics to Check-In to the Game. If you do not properly check-in at
Monster Camp or Logistics, and you are caught onsite, you will be suspended from
NERO for 6 months and your character build will be cut by 50%. The Check-In process
is quick, especially for those whom pre-registered and pre-paid, as we strive to
get our attendees completed with logisitcs in a total of twenty (20) minutes.
Each attendee will;
1) Pay for the event:
$80.00 if you didn’t notify us that you were
coming and you are paying at Check-In.
$70.00 if you did notify us that you were coming
and are paying at Check-In.
$60.00 if you are New to Nero even if you pay at
the door.
$60.00 if you pre-registered and pre-paid at
least 7 days prior to the event, you paid this much.
Deduct $10.00 from the event cost if you are not
sleeping in a cabin or are staying offsite.

NERO Rule Book
too)

We highly encourage everyone to take the $20.00 all you can eat, with the feast.
The Feast begins promptly on Saturday night at 6:30pm. For the Feast,
Bread/Butter, Salad, Italian Dressing and Parmesan Cheese are on the table when
you sit down. If in season, there are finger sized Carrots in bowls as well. You
have the choice of Chicken Stir Fry or Pasta with a hefty Meat Gravy. You also
Choose between a Baked Potato or Stove Top Stuffing as a side dish. There are
usually In-game announcements made by Regent Tavernier Septorian and his Nobles
as well, so don’t miss this in-game opportunity.
3)
Acquire your Membership &/or Character Card:
Carry your Membership card with you to all NERO
Events. Carry your Character Card with you at all times during game. Many people
carry their tags and such in plastic zip-lock bags. If you pre-registered, your
character card is in your envelope.
4)
Production Creation:
Do your production NOW for the entire weekend.
Get your Lab Cards if you own a Lab in the Estate we are in at this event. Have
your Equipment choices and applicable Lab Cards Ready. If you pre-registered
your production items are in your envelope.
5)
Confirm ownership of a White Headband:
Ask us for a White Headband if you don’t have one of your own. There is usually
some Thick White Ribbon, 1" thick please, that can be used as White Headbands.
6) Check your Weapons: Every Weapon must have a safety tag on it. Any player found using a
weapon without a weapon safety tag may be removed from the game.
SPECIAL EFFECTS & LIGHTING DISCLAIMER
To all Nero players, PC’s and NPC’s attending
this weekend’s activities:
This DISCLAIMER is to inform all
players, visitors, observers and those taking any part in this weekend that the
Nero staff may at different times, for the benefit of added effect and
amusement, utilize blacklight, strobe light, flash lighting, fog effects, wind
effects, and various “special effects” in and among the storylines/plot
presented.
If you as an individual are allergic,
adversely affected as per epilepsy, or bothered in any way by any of the above,
it is your responsibility to identify the situation, and remove yourself from
it. We encourage you to alert our staff of any conditions that apply, so that we
may alert you to any instances where we know you may encounter one of these
special effects.
Kitchen Staff & Meal Practices
Kitchen Staff for 2004
We have multiple new hosts and
hostesses for the Avendale Tavern this year. Committed to bringing a full Tavern
atmosphere to the game, Sean Coady, Matt King, Brian Ziegenhagen, and Kelly
Michel will be dressing it up and operating as kitchen staff the whole
season.
Sean and the group have assisted Sean
Stewart with the tavern over the last 2 years and understand the services and
support that National expects of their Tavern Staff at the game.
Please join me in welcoming these
culinary artists to their new responsibilities by recognizing their efforts with
role-play & interaction.
Tavern Meal Services Announced
This year we are introducing new food services methods, most
notably with the payment thereof. To eliminate the need for the Kitchen Staff to
accept out-of-game capital, which would bring our players out-of-game each time
they purchase food and place a heavy burden upon kitchen staff shoulders, we
offer several options;
1) Purchase of Specific Food Tickets:
Attendees are given the opportunity to purchase food coupons at Check-In for
each and every item on the menu. See The Food Menu for prices.
2) All You Can Eat & Drink: This allows
all you can eat for Friday Night Nibbles, Saturday Morning Breakfast, Saturday
Lunch, and Saturday Night Nibbles but NOT the Saturday Evening Feast. $15.00
3) All you can eat & drink including the
FEAST: as above with the feast included. $20.00
Regardless of which
Meal option an
attendee utilizes, each participant is given a Meal Card or Food Item Card that
is good for that Meal or specific Food Item. If you pre-register for your meals,
your meal card will be enclosed in your welcome envelope.
At Meal time, attendees order food
from the servers as usual, explaining if they have a Meal Card or Food Item Card
when ordering, eating until they are full if using a Meal Card, and turning the
Meal Card or Food Item Card over to the Server when there food is served.
We create each attendee a set of Meal
Cards when they register for the event but we do not give those cards until they
purchase the meals or food items at Check-in.
We also maintain sets of unsigned
Meal Cards and Food Item Cards to accommodate those members who decide to come
at the last moment and show up at-the-door to play!
The Kitchen Staff is given a list of
members who have taken advantage of the All You Can Eat options so they can
check the records against the Meal Cards turned in, catching unauthorized Cards
immediately.
Staff and NPC’s are given Meal & Food
Item Cards, which are used track the amount of food that each attendee consumes,
be they PC or NPC.
